COVID-19-related cases, deaths across Canada

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – More COVID-19-related deaths have been recorded in central Canada, where the virus has taken hold more than anywhere else in the nation.

As of Sunday evening, 72 new deaths were reported in Quebec, and 39 were recorded in Ontario.

Quebec has dealt with more than 18,000 cases so far, while Ontario has had more than 10,500.

Ontario provincial health officials said Sunday resolved cases jumped from 4,875 to 5,209, while thousands of more tests were completed.

In Alberta, the death count rose to 55, after another four people died this weekend and an additional 241 positive cases were reported. The new cases bring the provincial total to more than 2,800, and so far, 101,323 tests have been completed there.

Nova Scotia recorded nine coronavirus-related deaths since the pandemic took hold, while Saskatchewan recorded five new cases of COVID-19 and Manitoba reported two more.

Newfoundland and New Brunswick have not reported any new cases as of Sunday.

Meanwhile, in B.C., new numbers are expected to be released on Monday, with no provincial update provided on Sunday.

The total number of COVID-19-related deaths recorded in Canada is now more than 1,500. There have been more than 34,000 confirmed cases nation-wide, with just under 550,000 people tested for the coronavirus.
