Montreal (CityNews) – Former Governor General of Canada, Michaëlle Jean tweeted earlier this afternoon that her aunt had succumbed to COVID-19 while living in a long-term care center in Montreal.
“The family could neither assist nor accompany her in her last moments,” said Jean in her tweet. “The funeral services are responsible for cremating her remains. No Farewell ceremonies. Confined in sorrow.”

“My thoughts are with all those, all the families who, like us, are facing these difficult moments. We are of the same humanity and we have to go through this ordeal knowing that we are not alone,” added Jean.

“I want to express my gratitude to the medical staff, healthcare workers who took care of her, and I have no doubt that they also share our grief. We are confined in sorrow.”
Over 150 long-term care facilities are infected in Quebec and seeing outbreaks. The Quebec government had published a full list on their website regarding the infected sites.
