NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — A North Vancouver woman is frustrated after seeing a neighbour return from outside Canada and not follow mandatory isolation rules, with no repercussions.
The woman, who doesn’t want her name used for fear of retribution, said she made dozens of calls over a couple of days and got no help.
She made the first call to officials five days ago, after seeing someone in her condo building who just returned from overseas not self-isolating.
“RCMP didn’t have any directives,” said the woman. “They said it’s not their mandate.”
“Vancouver Coastal Health said the same thing.”
She added: “I left a voicemail for a doctor and didn’t hear back.”
The woman said RCMP told her the Quarantine Act is a federal measure.

B.C. Health Minister Adrian Dix has expressed frustration in the lack of federal action instructing and following up with people returning to Canada.
Dix said previously that opportunities to increase protections for local communities are being missed.
“We have to have a vastly greater capacity to use the quarantine act,” he added.
Dix said he wants the federal government to ensure instructions are clear to all Canadians returning to the country and called for the federal government to give B.C. access to all information on returning travellers so there can be follow-up.
