VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The B.C. NDP has been fined $4,000 for violating campaign finance rules heading into last year’s provincial election.
Elections B.C. issued the penalties involving four cases of failing to report a specified fundraising function within time frames set by the Election Act.

In each case, the mistake has been chalked up to human error. Elections B.C. confirmed those responsible did not deliberately set out to violate the Election Act.

The disclosure rules require the date, time, location and ticket price of each fundraising function to be reported to Elections B.C. at least seven days before the event. It also requires an additional report 60 days after the event. In each of the four cases, the initial report wasn’t filed in the timeline required.
