VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Where are they going and, where are they coming from?

New numbers from LinkedIn that show how the brain drain is affecting Canada’s still-booming entrepreneurial sector.

The number of individual entrepreneurs in Canada jumped by 13 per cent this year according to LinkedIn.

Not all were home-grown either says the company’s Danielle Restivo. “We are getting talent from India and the UK who are coming in and because we are seeing a boost in the tech sector, it’s possible that accounts for the inflow of talent.”

Are we losing talent to our neighbours across the border?

“Does it happen? Yes, absolutely. The US, ever our trading partner, is also the country we lose talent to the most. But we’re also getting talent from the US for various reasons. Maybe people are ready to have a change and get out of the US and come to Canada,” adds Restivo.

The other top five countries we get our reverse-brain-drain talent from? India, France and Brazil.
